Gacha Tapes is a blindbox tape series inspired by the structure of TCG packs, gachapon, and gacha games: every cassette has the same exterior, while the exact recordings inside remain a mystery until opened. Each tape is numbered, and its contents are documented as part of the project’s archive. Taken together, the tapes put recordings from different shows, artists, places, and moments into circulation, with each pairing determined by chance. The tapes are hand-dubbed in small runs, with recordings mastered to tape by slashsound.
Each recording appears a limited number of times in the initial pool. The compendium will continue to expand as more shows are recorded. Future batches will draw from an increasingly broad collection of performances, creating an ever-wider record of Detroit’s hardware performance community over time.
Gacha Tapes is less about presenting a definitive picture of the scene, than documenting one corner of Detroit’s hardware techno artist community. credits released August 27, 2026
